When I was growing up I hated to be left alone with men. I was terrified they might ask me to do manly things like help fix a carburetor or skin a deer. The opening day of deer hunting season was more anticipated than Christmas at my dad’s house, and while he was never as good a hunter as my uncle, a season rarely passed without at least one deer hanging upside down from a tree in my grandmother’s backyard.
